H.O.P.E.’s House Christian Ministries began in 2001 with 12 individuals
who had a vision to start a bible study on the California State University , Northridge (CSUN) campus in the San Fernando Valley .
This group included the 3 pastors (Charles Humphrey, Andrea Humphrey and Robert Hill) who all are CSUN graduates. Those 12 formed a chartered campus organization called H.O.P.E. Fellowship that met in September 2001 with approximately 25 people in attendance. They purposed to create a safe environment for the students by teaching a biblically sound and relatable message, providing tutoring, counseling and weekly meals to the students free of charge. That bible study grew and eventually had over 75 students in attendance. Many students were unable to get to Sunday services at popular Los Angeles area churches and eventually asked the Pastors to begin having services once a month in their home.
In March of 2003, the first Sunday service was held in the pastor’s home in Granada Hills. About 25 were in attendance that day and stayed after for soul food and socializing. The monthly services eventually became bi-weekly and later became weekly. By August 2003, nearly 45 people were attending and the living room was bursting at the seams! People who were genuinely hungry for a fresh Word continued to attend. It was then that the pastors were able to lease a building in Van Nuys , California that had recently been vacated by another church that needed more space. The inaugural church service was held on Sunday, September 7th 2003. Surprisingly, over 225 people, including family, friends and well-wishers, packed the inaugural service. It served as yet another confirmation that God had indeed planted H.O.P.E.’s House to be a source of Hope, Opportunity, Purpose and Encouragement to many in the Valley!
In 2010, God blessed H.O.P.E.’s House with its own building in Granada Hills. Built upon a foundation that combines youthful and energetic worship, with a relevant and powerful Word, H.O.P.E.’s House continues to be a place where people of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to be themselves as they develop in the things of God.
